Trimbach Gewurztraminer 2012
Pale straw with a light gold tinge. Notes of smoky bacon fat complicate delicate tropical fruits, rose water and ginger on the nose. Then rather austere and linear on the palate, with good floral lift to the stone fruit flavors. Finishes rich and long, with a trace of alcoholic heat. Although Trimbach had made a Réserve Gewürztraminer from the 2012 harvest, they decided to declassify it all into this entry-level wine.
Wine SpectatorVerbena and pine forest hints lace this dry, well-cut white, while smoky minerality underscores flavors of melon, dried apricot, pink grapefruit and beeswax. Spiced finish. Drink now through 2024.
