Boxhead Shiraz 2013
This wine has generally drunk well above its price point and the 2013 offering is no different. McLaren Vale provides the base for the wine with plenty of cocoa powder (not going into chocolaty notes) and brambly red fruits; this is balanced by some cool fruit from Langhorne Creek bringing a mint infused blackberry cocktail.
Spicy blackberry and cherry aromas are complemented by cracked pepper and dried violet. Juicy, plump dark fruit flavors betray no rough edges and are enlivened by a tangy mineral note. No excess fat here. Finishes bright, with uncommon complexity and length for the price point, making this a remarkable bargain.
