Masi Campofiorin 2009

We're sorry, but this product is not currently available.

Intense, ruby red colour with violet tinges on the edges. The nose quickly reveals its generosity with aromas of ripe fruit, plum and cherry jam, and hints of spice. Equally rich and intense on the palate, with stand out flavours of bitter cherries and berry fruit. Good acidity and balance with velvety supporting tannins. A very versatile wine. Perfect with many different kinds of food such as pasta with rich sauces (based on meat or mushrooms), grilled or roasted red meats, game and mature cheeses.

Wine AdvocateAlthough it carries an IGT designation, the 2009 Campofiorin is one of the first commercially successful examples of Ripasso (a second fermentation occurs on the skins of Amarone) produced in Valpolicella. The folks at Masi take enormous credit for perfecting this innovative technique over the years. Campofiorin opens with pretty, dark extraction and bright aromas of ripe blackberry and creme de cassis. There's a touch of jammy fruit, raisin and prune, but they fit squarely within the Ripasso guidelines. The finish is velvety rich and slightly sweet. I found that this wine drank even better two or three days after the bottle was opened. Drink 2014-2019.

Wine EnthusiastThe great darling of Valpolicella, Campofiorin is a ripasso-style red that undergoes a special double fermentation, although the label does not mention "ripasso." It shows impressive personality and complexity, with spice, ripe fruit, leather and dried ginger aromas.
